CBSE Admits "Procedural Irregularities" — AI Marking Bias Against Government School Students

<p>CBSE acknowledged "procedural irregularities" in its 2026 board exam evaluation on July 18. An RTI response revealed that CBSE had deployed an AI-assisted marking system at 23 evaluation centres as a secret "pilot program" without informing students or parents.</p><p>Independent analysis shows the AI system was trained primarily on evaluation patterns from elite private school papers, creating a systematic 30-50 mark disadvantage for government school students across 15,000+ answer sheets.</p><p>"This is institutional classism encoded into an algorithm," said Dr. Anita Krishnan, JNU education policy researcher. "The AI essentially learned to reward private school writing patterns and penalize government school students."</p>
